You can clean canvas by using a small pan & brush, a sponge or hosing down to get rid of mud and leaves, take extra precaution to remove spots from bird dropping or tree drippings. You can use warm water and mild soap ie. liquid hand soap that you purchase in pump bottles. DO NOT clean canvas with detergents or bleach, which may damage the fabric or water proof coating.
It is very important that the canvas be completely dry before packing so mould and fugus do not grow on it.
You can kill the mould and fugus by saturating the cloth with a solution of 1 part of strong chlorine bleach with 5 parts water. You may need to do this a few times, then rinse totally clean with cold water. After this reproofing is necessary.
Do not use aerosol insect spray on canvas tent. It breaks down the water resistant qualities of fabric. Use stick, cream or liquid repellent.
