Wanneroo is a small suburb of Perth in Western Australia with a population of over 13,000. It is a 30-minute drive north of the centre of Perth and situated within the city of Wanneroo.

History

The area of Wanneroo saw its first settlers in 1834. A man called John Butler and three of his friends found the land when they were searching for some lost cattle. They passed through the area and found aborigines living there.

It is believed that the word Wanneroo was used for the suburb as far back as 1842. It was originally spelt Wanneru and changed to Wanneroo in 1853.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wanneroo has some great eateries including a steakhouse and Chinese restaurant. The area continues to be updated but it retains some of its historic beauty. There are lots of lovely parks and playgrounds with shade and BBQ areas.

You can find great sporting facilities, such as a skate park, indoor aquatic centre and golf course. Wanneroo hosts the state’s largest regional agricultural show every year. There is also the Barbagallo Raceway, which is the home of motor racing in WA.
