Perth Airport is a domestic and international airport, serving Western Australia’s capital of Perth. It’s located in the suburb of Redcliffe and is Australia’s fourth busiest airport.

History

Prior to Perth Airport, air services for the city were provided from Maylands Airport. By the end of the 1930’s, it was clear that Maylands couldn’t handle the amount traffic flowing through. The Government then began to search for a site for a new airport. They selected the current site in 1938.

During World War II, the airport was used for military purposes and as a base for the Royal Australian Air Force and United States Navy. It wasn’t until the late 1960’s that civilians began using the airport for domestic and international flights.
