Based in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, Mukinbudin is the main town in the Shire. It lies 296km east of Perth. Mukinbudin has a population of 281 people.
History
In the 1870s, European pastoralists settled on the land. Miners on their way to the goldfields, and sandalwood cutters, also made their way to Mukinbudin. By 1910, farmers began growing wheat in the area.
In 1922, Mukinbudin received town status. 1923 saw the opening of a railway line from Mt Marshall to Mukinbudin.
In 2011, Mukinbudin experienced severe storms and flooding. Wind speeds of over 125km/h meant hundreds of trees were blown over.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Mukinbudin has many natural and historical features. Beringbooding Rock features one of Australia’s largest rock water catchment tanks. Tourists who visit Elachbutting Rock can walk through a 40m rock tunnel and marvel at the giant wave formation.
Every September, the town features the Mukinbudin Spring Festival and Art Exhibition. The event runs for four days and features markets, artists, and more.
