History

The area of Melville was named after Melville Water on the Swan River. Melville Water gets its name from a man called Robert Dundas. He was the second Viscount Melville. Captain James Stirling was responsible for giving the suburb its name.

Melville was first suggested for development in the 1890s as Melville Park Estate. It wasn’t until after World War II when the suburb started to see great change.

Melville is close to some excellent schools and parks. The Garden City Shopping Centre is nearby, which is one of the best malls in Perth. There are some good restaurants in the area, as well as convenient public transport links.
