A small town in the Eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, Kulin is known for its sheep and wheat farming. About 280 kilometres from Perth, this tiny town has a population of just over 350.
History
In the early years of European settlement in this area, possum-hunting Aborigines were regularly seen. However, no signs of permanent indigenous occupation have been found. While the town was originally known as Jilakin, it was renamed Kulin in 1915.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Every year in October it hosts the Kulin Bush Races. On the way into the town keep an eye out for more than 100 tin horses lining the roads. The town is also home to the largest water slide in regional Western Australia. The Blazing Swan festival is held here annually, a celebration of artistic expression in which an effigy of a swan is burnt at the culmination of the event.
