History

No one knows who first discovered Lake Jandakot. Whoever it was exaggerated the size of the lake. When Surveyor-General Septimus Roe arrived in 1833, he was disappointed.

The lake was a stopping place on the tract between Canning River and Pinjarra. Surveyor J.W. Gregory recorded its indigenous name as Jandacot in 1844. The word means ‘places of the whistling eagle’.

Jandakot Airport opened in 1963. The lake became known as Lake Forrestdale in 1973.

LIfestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to Jandakot Airport. It is a small but busy aviation centre. It is reputed to have perfect weather all year round.
Jandakot has plenty of green space including many parks. There is a public golf course. Retail and commercial buildings are scattered through the suburb. These include eateries and fresh food shops.

The suburb has a primary school.
