Forrestfield is a suburb in the Kalamunda Shire in Western Australia. The suburb lies 15km southeast of Perth. It is split by Roe Highway into a southern residential and northern area and has a population of around 12,000.

History

European settlement of Forrestfield dates back to the late 1800s. Population was low until growth came during the periods between the wars.

Development on a large scale did not occur until post-war, where the suburb saw lots of growth from the 1950s through to the 1970s.

It is thought to be named after Western Australia’s first premier, John Forrest. Local folklore, however, suggests the name comes from Charles Hale, who lived in the area in 1902 and planted crops in the forest bushland.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Forrestfield is home to Edinburgh Road Shopping Centre and Forrestfield Forum and Forrestfield Marketplace. The suburb also houses Hartfield Park Recreation Centre. This complex includes an indoor stadium.
