East Fremantle is a suburb of Perth. It’s part of its own Town of East Fremantle local government area, and sits 13km south-west of the central business district. The suburb has a population of more than 7,700.

History

East Fremantle is bordered by the Swan River, which was once used by the Noongar people for hunting and drinking water. European settlement began in the 1830s, with several farms popping up over the next few decades. In the 1890s, the area experienced a gold rush. This ended the agricultural era, with the suburb becoming far more developed and residential afterwards.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

These days, East Fremantle is known for its many beautiful parks. These include J Dolan Park, Stratford Park and W. W. Wayman Reserve. George Street is a historic local hub, with various interesting shops and cafes to browse. Every year, George Street plays host to the East Fremantle Festival. The East Fremantle Oval is also found here, serving as the home of East Fremantle Football Club.
