Dianella is a large suburb of Western Australia close to central Perth. It has a population of around 22,500 and lots to offer both locals and visitors.

History

The area of Dianella takes its name from a small blue lily called Dianella Revoluta. It is a plant that was seen all around the suburb before any houses were built. The land wasn’t suitable for farming, which made the early development of the town slow.

In the 1880s, the Intercolonial Investment Company of Sydney started to divide the land. Again, progress was slow. By 1919, the only development was on Walter Road. It wasn’t until the 1960s when the town started to take shape.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Dianella is full of tree-lined streets and fabulous parks. There is a big shopping centre on the doorstep, as well as a public pool and gym. The town provides easy access to public transport and the freeway is only a short drive away.

The suburb is the third largest Jewish community in the country. Dianella is also part of a small Greek community. If you’re into sport, then you’ll be pleased to learn that you can find football, athletics and cricket facilities too.
