History
Bridgetown was once a major farming town. Farmers in the area worked with timber, cattle, dairy, nuts and fruit. Many people moved to the town after the gold rush in 1892, bringing commerce with them. Bridgetown has since changed to become more of a tourist destination of late. Many people want an escape from the city in this scenic little town. Bridgetown used to be known as Geegelup, which is a Noongar Aboriginal word.
