History

The suburb name comes from two indigenous Australian words that have been joined together. Many migrants from Southern Europe chose to live in the Balcatta area. They built homes in original architectural styles.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The population of Balcatta is largely middle class. There are lots of foreigners living here. This includes many Greek, Italian and Macedonian families. The suburb has both residential and commercial and industrial areas.

The longest road the suburb is called Jones Street. It has traffic calming measures put in place. These are to keep vehicles moving at a slow speed.

The Jones Paskin Reserve has a cricket pitch. The Balcatta Cricket Club play here. It is also used by the community of Balcatta for other purposes.
