Templestowe is a picturesque suburb of Victoria and home to around 16,000 people. It is 16 kilometres north-east of Melbourne’s central business district and has beautiful green surroundings.

History

In 1839, many Scottish and Irish settlers came to Templestowe. The name for the area was chosen when it became a proper village. It is believed to come from a book called Ivanhoe, which was written by a man called Sir Walter Scott.

During the 1850s, a bridge was built in Lower Plenty over the Plenty River. It was made from steel and bluestone blocks. The bridge is still part of the Plenty River Trail. Experts say that the Templestowe Bridge would have looked similar to it.

Templestowe is home to some expensive houses and mansions. It has beautiful streets and nature, as well as excellent schools. Park options are endless. You can find a mix of Italian, Australian and Greek cultures in the town.

There is the Pines shopping centre on the corner of Reynolds and Blackburn Road, which also has some good restaurants. Doncaster shopping town is a short drive away for lots of great shops and boutiques.
