Pearcedale is a semi-rural residential suburb in Victoria. It’s located 49km south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and has a population of 3,871.

History

When the Mornington and Stony Point railway lines opened in the late 1880’s, the town that was near the Military Camp station was named Langwarrin. However, a town that developed on the east side of the station was named New Langwarrin. In 1905, residents of the original town voted to change the name to Pearcedale to avoid confusion.

The town’s name comes from Nathaniel Pearce, who owned an orchard in the area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town is surrounded by horse properties, market gardens, cattle, egg and poultry farms. Most of the area is zoned as “green wedge”, which limits development.

The area is known for the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, which houses many endangered Australian species. It offers tours at night.
