Greenvale is a suburb in Melbourne’s City of Hume. It is located 20km from Melbourne’s central business district, and has a population of 11,969 according to the 2011 census.

History

Greenvale’s post office opened in 1871 and closed in 1969, before reopening again in 1996. The suburb was quiet until the 1980s, where rapid expansion saw new shopping centres and schools built. Greenvale is also home to the Greenvale Sanatorium, which was open from 1905 to 1998.

With four schools, an AFL team, and a soccer club, Greenvale is perfect for families. The suburb also has a local shopping centre, the Greenvale Shopping Centre, which has local produce, fashion stores, medical facilities, and more. At the fringes of the suburb, the Woodlands Historic Park provides beautiful scenery for a weekend picnic or BBQ.
