Greensborough is a suburb with a population of over 20,000 people. It is located 19km north-east of Melbourne in the local government area of the Shire of Nillumbik.

History

Greensborough was named after an early settler called Edward Bernard Green who was also the district mail contractor. The area was formerly known as Keelbundoora, an aboriginal word meaning ‘round swamp’.

The town was established towards the end of the 1850s around the same time as the opening of the first post office in 1858.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Greensborough has plenty to see and do for both residents and visitors. The Greensborough Plaza is one of Melbourne’s largest shopping centres and there is also a busy commercial area located on Main Street in the town centre.

The town also has a modern leisure and aquatic centre called WaterMarc, which is home to the DVE aquatic club.
