Glenroy is a suburb in Victoria located in the north-west of the city of Moreland. It is situated 13 kilometres north of Melbourne’s central business district. The area has a population of over 19,600.

History

The suburb of Glenroy was once home to the Wurundjeri people. Building in the area started at the end of the 19th century.

After World War II, The Australian National Airways, War Services Homes Commission and Housing Commission of Victoria started to develop Glenroy. Lots of houses were built throughout the 1950s. The first post office opened in 1958. It later closed in 1977.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Glenroy has a railway station that sits on the Craigieburn line. The station provides public transport to the Melbourne CBD. In addition to regular railway services, Glenroy provides lots of bus services and cyclist trails.

Features of the suburb include the Northern Golf Club, Northern Memorial Park and a big retail area. Glenroy is also home to many schools, as well as football and cricket grounds.
