History
Dromana saw an influx of gold prospectors in the mid-1830s. Many were of Irish origin. It is believed they named the suburb after a Dromana in County Waterford in Ireland
Crown lands in Dromana were first subdivided in 1854. The suburb’s post office opened on 12 April 1858. By 1888, it was a busy seaside resort area.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Dromana has a small shopping centre containing a supermarket and food shops. Locals and holidaymakers enjoy the Dromana Drive-In cinema, a popular entertainment spot.
Vineyards are widespread in Dromana. There are over 22 vintners in the suburb. The town’s Australian Rules football team competes in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.
