We use new sealed vacuum tankers to collect the septic tank waste and transport it to the nearest approved treatment facility for safe disposal. This process is monitored strictly by the Health Department and The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). Septic King is an approved EPA waste transporter and has to comply with set standards and regulations.
Septic tanks are meant to be full to their operating capacity, i.e. full of sludge and scum, needing emptying, or a stench so unbearable from all the good bacteria dying that a fresh start is required. Another way to know if the septic tank is full is if the toilet is slow to flush away, or won't flush away at all.
From years of field experience, based on an average family with average use, we suggest that septic tanks be pumped out between 3-5 years to keep the system functioning smoothly.
Septic tanks work with the help of non-oxygenated anaerobic bacteria to break down the edible matter, which makes them need very little maintenance. Some waste floats and forms a crust, which indicates a healthy system, and some sinks. The cleaner water flows from between these layers to the drain-field. As the scum & sludge layers build up over time, the clear water (retention zone) is reduced, and eventually the sludge is flushed into the drain-field. This is why we suggest periodic cleaning.
Common signs include slow drains, foul odours, pooling water around the tank area, or unusually lush grass growth.
It’s strongly recommended to hire licensed professionals, as improper handling can be hazardous and cause costly damage.
