Zillmere is a northern suburb that is located 14km from the central business district of Brisbane. It is part of the City of Brisbane local government area. It has a population of 8,105.

History

Zillmere was originally called Zillman’s Waterholes. It was named after a missionary called Johann Leopold Zillmann. He worked at a mission station in the area. When people first settled here, they farmed the area. They grew pineapples and other crops, and they also kept pigs. In 1898, a slaughterhouse was set up.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

There is a popular shopping centre in Zillmere that also has a variety of services. These include key cutting and veterinary services. There are several public and private schools as well as churches from different denominations.

The Zillmere Multicultural Festival, or Zillfest, takes place each year. This event pays homage to local culture with traditional dancing and other activities.
