The residential suburb of Thornlands is a part of the Redland City local government area. It is situated 28km from Brisbane and the area takes its name from George Thorne who was once owned land there. The suburb has a population of over 12,800 people.

History

Most of the suburb has developed on land between Cleveland and the Logan River in the years following its sub-division in 1900. The first settlers were mainly agricultural workers and the first state school was founded in Thornlands in 1910. Over the years the area as continued to grow as a residential area while some of the larger plots in the south are still rural residences.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Thornlands is home to Redlands District Rugby League Club, Pinklands Netball and Pony Club, and several schools including the Nazarene Theological College. Transport access into the area is enabled via the local major road network including the Cleveland-Redland Bay and Boundary Roads
