Based in Queensland, Tewantin is a leafy suburb in Noosa. It falls under the federal division of Wide Bay and is 7km west of Noosa. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 10,600 people. It neighbours Doonan, Noosaville, and Cooroibah.

History

Tewantin takes its name from from the native word “dauwadhum”. This word means “place of dead logs”.

The area used to be a timber town. In 1869, It was a river port for the Noosa region. In 1871, Tewantin was officially established.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The main street running through Tewantin is called Poinciana Avenue. The ANZAC War Memorial on this street pays tribute to Australia’s war involvement throughout history. Poinciana Avenue is also the place to be for shopping and dining out.

The state school in Tewantin has been educating local youngsters ever since it was established way back in 1875.
