The main cause of gum disease is dental plaque, which is a bacterial build up that accumulates on your teeth. When plaque builds up bacteria begins to infect the gums causing bleeding and inflammation. At the same time, the bone and ligament around the tooth begins to break down.
Whilst composite resin fillings are preferable to silver fillings for the obvious cosmetic reasons, if your tooth area that is decayed is large or is subject to heavy chewing pressure, we may recommend another type of restoration. This will be discussed with your dentist at the time of your consultation.
Composite fillings are made from a tooth-coloured resin compound that restores the natural appearance of a decayed or previously filled tooth.
