History

Highfields was first developed in the 1860s. Timber was the local industry of the time and there were many sawmills in the area. Once the local timber had been cleared, dairy farms began to open.

In the 1860s, a railway line was built from Ipswich to Toowoomba. This led to many railway workers finding their way to Highfields.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Highfield has a range of attractions and amenities. The Highfields Pioneer Historical Village is the main site of historical interest in the area. It is home to a unique selection of vintage vehicles and machinery. There is also a Cultural Centre, which is used for performances and conferences.

Shoppers enjoy both the Highfields Village and Plaza shopping centres.
