Currumbin Waters is a suburb of Queensland’s Gold Coast. It is in the south-east corner of the state. The 2011 census measured the area’s population at 8,883.

History

Aborigines have inhabited the area for 23,000 years. There are several different clans, though they are collectively known as the Kombumerri people.

European settlement of the area occurred in the 1800s, with Samuel William Grey leading this. The 1900s saw the area develop into a place for industry. At the same time, tourism to Currumbin Waters increased. This meant that many houses and hotels were built.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

In 2013, Currumbin Beach received the title of Australia’s cleanest beach. The Tallebudgera Golf Course is a five minute drive from Currumbin Waters. The Currumbin Creek flows straight through the middle of the suburb.
