Cranbrook is a suburb in the urban area of Townsville. It is located 8 kilometres from the Townsville CBD, on the north side of the Ross River. The suburb has a population of 6,276 according to the 2011 census.

History

Cranbrook is still a relatively new suburb. The area was officially named in 1968, after the home of Robert Towns, the man who Townsville was named after. Urban development in the area began in the 1960s, and the local Catholic primary school and boys secondary college opened in 1969.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Cranbrook is close to the Townsville CBD, making its location highly convenient for access to cafes and shopping centres. The suburb itself also has a Kmart Plaza, with a local carvery, and other stores. Cranbrook has an abundance of schools in and around the area as well.
