History

History is undecided as to how Cleveland got its name. One theory suggests that Captain James Cook called it Cleveland after a member of the Admiralty department. Another theory is that surveyors of the area named it after William Vane, 1st Duke of Cleveland.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Cleveland Markets are one of the first markets in Brisbane, and they are over 30 years old. They are open every Sunday morning from 7am until 1pm. You can find stalls selling everything from food to arts and crafts. The market welcomes applications from new stall owners.

If you like going to exhibitions, Cleveland is home to the Redland Art Gallery and the Redland Museum. The Redland Museum has exhibits from local history.
