Located 10km north of the Brisbane Central Business District, this suburb is an important point on the developing Northern Busway. In 2011, its population was measured by the census to be 8,170.

History

Chermside was originally named Downfall Creek. This changed in 1903 in honour of Sir Herbert Chermside, the Governor of Queensland.

With the first area of land sold on May 23, 1866, European settlers quickly settled Chermside. The first Kmart store in Queensland was opened here in the 1970s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

With Mt Gravatt, Carindale, and Indooroopilly, Chermside has been sometimes labelled a mini-CBD. The suburb has a large Westfield shopping centre. It also offers a wide range of food choices with various Japanese, Italian, Thai, and Indian restaurants.

For lovers of nature, the Merchant and 7th Brigade Parks are worth a look. The Chermside Aquatic Centre and Water Park is recommended.
