History

Before Europeans came to settle in Burleigh Heads, a tribe of indigenous Australians called the Kombumerri people lived here. They referred to the area as Jellurgal. In 1840, a survey of the coastland in the area was done. The man carrying out the survey called one of the headlands Burly Head because it looked so big. This later became Burleigh Heads.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Burleigh Heads is famous for its surfing. People come from all around to test themselves out on the waves. People gather on the headland to have a BBQ and watch the action.

The David Fleay Wildlife Park is located in the area. The park is heritage-listed, and you can see many native animals including reptiles, wombats and birds here.
