Boonah has a population of 2,474. The town is part of Queensland’s Scenic Rim Region. Hills and mountains surround it. These include the Main Range, the McPherson Range, and the Moogerah Peaks.
History
The town was established in 1882. At first, it was called both Dugandan Scrub and Blumbergville. The Ipswich railway line passed through the area in 1887. Boonah took on its current name in the late 1880s.
In 1888, the Goolman Division, which was the area’s local government, moved to Boonah. They had previously operated out of Flinders. The famous Boonah Butter Factory opened in 1933 and closed in 1974.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The Butter Factory is one of many buildings of historic interest in Boonah. Others include Coochin Coochin Homestead, Boonah War Memorial and Memorial Park and the Boonah Showgrounds.
Rock climbers enjoy Frog Buttress. This popular climbing cliff sits on the northwestern side of Mt French.
