The suburb of Aspley is situated around 13km outside of Brisbane’s central business district and is built on the mainly level ground. The area flourished after gold was discovered in nearby Gympie in October of 1867. The area has a population of over 12,000 people.

History

The first land sales were offered in the area in 1857. In 1868 the government allocated 2700 pounds to build what is now known as Gympie Road. The Royal Exchange Hotel soon followed and it also provided a general store on the premises.
One of the first businesses in the area was a vineyard named after the Aspley Hall in Nottinghamshire England. The area benefited from further expansion in population and development during the 1920’s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

There are several schools in the area including that Aspley State School. It is one of the most popular Primary Schools on the north side of Brisbane. The area has a hypermarket, several car dealerships, and a Coles superstore.

Aspley also has plenty of restaurants, a gymnasium, and the Aspley Village Shopping Centre. The Aspley Hornets Australian Rules Football Teams are also based in the area. There is a sizable library and good transport links into the area too.
