History

The first European settlers in Sydney did not pay much attention to the Paddington area. The village of Paddington was firmly established around 1841. A large army barracks was being built in the area, and the workers and craftsmen involved in the project set up home here.

Victoria Barracks is a good example of Australian military architecture. You can visit it on Thursday morning, and it has a museum. Paddington Town Hall towers over the area, and is an illustration of Victorian architecture. Paddington is known for its private art galleries. There are many different ones to choose from. It is also famous for having many hotels. However, you can only stay in some of them.
