History

The indigenous people of the area are the Mulgoa. They spoke Dharug, a language spoken in the area that is now Sydney. The Mulgoa Valley was also inhabited by the Gandangara people. ‘Mulgoa’ is thought to translate to ‘black swan’.

Land grants were given to European settlers in the early 1800s. Early buildings included Regentville House, built in 1824. The mansion was destroyed in 1869 in a fire whose cause was never discovered.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Mulgoa is West of and 66 kilometres from Sydney’s Central Business District. It is home to two schools: Mulgoa Public School and Nepean Christian School. The suburb preserves pieces of early colonial history. This includes a building called The Cottage, built around 1811 by one William Cox, which still stands.
