Mt Annan is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. It is 60km outside the Sydney CBD and has a population of 10,540.

History

The area was initially occupied by the Dharawal people. They clashed with the European settlers. The settlers began fencing of vital hunting grounds which lead to uprisings. These uprisings ended in a massacre of the indigenous people, who retreated from the area.

The land surrounding Mt Annan was used for farming until Sydney’s suburb reached the area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Australian Botanic Garden is in Mt Annan. It is the largest botanical garden in Australia with 416 hectares of land and over 4,000 species of plants.

Mt Annan features restaurants, bars, shops and multiple leisure centres and parks. It also has two schools, a primary school and a high school. Also, it is close to one of the campuses of the Western Sydney University.
