History

Macquarie Park is named after Governor Lachlan Macquarie, a British colonial administrator and former governor or New South Wales. The area was once a part of North Ryde and its Aboriginal name was Wallumatta.

At one time, Macquarie Park was home to many market gardens and farms and its stunning scenery has attracted people to the area ever since.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Macquarie Park is home to one of Australia’s largest universities which take up a large part of the town. There are also a number of busy shopping areas including The Macquarie Centre, which has over 250 retail stores, a cinema and ice rink.

The Lane Cove River Tourist Park is popular with visitors and is best known as a location for the TV series ‘Home and Away’.
