Macksville is a peaceful riverside town in the Nambucca Shire region of New South Wales. Located halfway between Brisbane and Sydney, it has a population of 2,786.

History

Two of the area’s early settlers, Angus Mackay and Hugh McNally, built the Star Hotel in 1885. The land around which it was built became known as ‘Mack’s Village’. A short time later it became Macksville.

The Star Hotel is supposedly the oldest hotel on the north coast of New South Wales.

Macksville sits on the banks of the River Nambucca. It is a fantastic spot for watersports and fishing. The town is well-renowned for sport and every November holds NSW’s oldest professional foot race.
