History

The area is a key example of demographic change in the inner city. Modern day Lilyfield is a largely middle-class area. Lilyfield boasts a number of pre-WWI cottages, terraces and houses.

The former Kirkbride Complex is on the Register of the National Estate. Today, this property is the home of the Sydney College of Arts. The Sydney College of Arts is Sydney University’s main visual arts facility.

The area is a part of Sydney’s inner city Light Rail and bus network. It is a hub for local musicians, artists and students, with many small cafes and music venues. Lilyfield features many picturesque parks. A large Mediterranean community continues to reside in the suburb.
