The coastal town of Forster in the Mid North Coast region is just 4 hours’ drive from Sydney making it a popular tourist destination. There are also many visitors during the cooler months thanks to the mild climate. The area has a population of over 13,000 people.

History

The area was named after William Forster the one time Premier of New South Wales who also served as an Agent-General in London. The town saw the opening of the first post office in 1872 on October 1st. The Post Master at the time was a John Wyllie Breckenridge and his yearly salary was ten pounds.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Because of its status as a resort, there are many water sports activities and clubs in the area. These include surf lifesaving clubs, a Bodyboarding Association, and the Cape Hawke Surf Club. The area is mainly a family resort and there are plenty of local places of interest to visit. Nearby attractions include lakes, beaches, and the Cape Hawke trail and Booti Booti National Park.
