Elderslie is a suburb in Sydney in the Macarthur Region. 60km from the CBD, it has a population of around 4,250.

History

In 1795, the area was named “Cowpastures” due to the fact that a group of lost cattle was discovered in the area. In 1805, a small hut was built in the suburb to house two constables assigned to look after the cattle. This was the first house to be built by British settlers in the Camden region.

In 1839, Elderslie Post Office was opened. It closed in 1841 and was replaced by the nearby Camden office. The post office reopened in 1876 but closed again in 1969.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Elderslie has a small local shop, a primary school, and a high school. There are many sporting facilities in the suburb including netball courts, cricket grounds, AFL grounds, a Rugby League oval, and a BMX track. It is also home to the Camden Visitors’ centre.
