History

The suburb of Hume takes its name from explorer, Hamilton Hume. He is famous for being an explorer of New South Wales and Victoria. Hume is one of the first Europeans to explore the Darling River.

Although Hume has a small population, it has grown in the past 10 years. In fact, in 2006, six people resided in Hume. This population increase occurred after the Alexander Maconochie Centre was built.

Visits to Hume will notice that the streets take their name from Australian industrialists and businessmen.

The suburb an industrial area. As such, there is no significant housing development.
