History

The town was named after Sir John Winthrop Hackett. He was a newspaper editor, university chancellor and advocate for the federation of Australian states. The higher eastern side of Hackett is on top of the lowest layer of the Ainslie Volcanics, a grey dacite, and other erupted particles such as agglomerate and tuff.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Hackett is next to Watson, Dickson and Ainslie. It is bounded by Antill Street and Philip Avenue on the side. On the other side is the Canberra Nature Park of Mt Ainslie/Mt Majura. Mt Majura is behind the town to the east. Hackett has a neighbourhood oval and shopping centre. It is very close to the Australian Catholic University.
